Description

The part used is the flowers. Derivatives: the flowers are extracted with petroleum ether to yield a concrete, which in turn gives an absolute after alcohol extraction. The enfleurage method or infusion processes have also been used.

Chemical Properties

The flowers of O. fragrans are extracted with petroleum ether to yield a concrete, from which absolute is prepared by alcohol extraction. Also see Osmanthus.

Essential oil composition

The absolute contains (as% of volatiles) linolenic acid 17.4%, linoleic acid 8.7, palmitic acid 8.6, β-ionone, oleic acid 7.0, dihydro-β-ionone 6.4, ethyl linolenate 6.3, (+)-decan-4-olide 4.0, ethylpalmitate 3.4, ethyl linoleate 3.1, dihdro-β-inol 3.0 and others.

Aroma threshold values

Aroma characteristics at 1.0%: sweet, woody, herbal and floral with aromatic fruity berry notes and citrus, juniper and gin-like nuances.

Taste threshold values

Taste characteristics at 5 ppm: ionone-like woody, fruity with good berry depth, slightly citrus and floral.
